Upset that charming ultra soft quality diminished.

I normally apply water to the charmin tissues when using them and in the past they held up good not now.

User's recommendation: Be aware the charmin ultra soft has changed in quality.

Charmin quality has changed

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • Charmin recently changed the product to a smaller roll with lower quality paper that tears easily.
  • I will switch to Costco toilet paper.

Charmin has very recently changed their product. Making the roll smaller is one thing, but they have definitely changed their product to a lower quality paper that is rougher and tears easier.

I certainly won't be paying a premium price for a *** product. As much as I hate Costco toilet paper, I will be switching.

Loss:

Cons:
  • Overpriced
  • Misleading product

Preferred solution: Apology

I've waited to no avail

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • Long-time Charmin user unhappy with changes.
  • Sensitive skin issues from the tissue.
  • Wet tissue melts, balls up, and sticks around.

I have been using Charmin for 50 years but no more. You changed it about 20-25 years ago and I should've quit then.

I have sensitive skin so I didn't know what to get. I kept waiting for enough complaints that you would change it back. It seems you changed it again in the last 5 or 10 years and then recently made a wave perforation. I thought the wave was great but I don't have a dispenser on the wall yet.

What I cannot tolerate is the tissue paper melting away as it gets wet and getting balled up and stuck in places.

Sometimes, you know and can remove it.

Other times, you can't tell and then you find little balls of used TP all over your house because it falls out from it's hiding place. The even smaller grains stay up then until you rub then out or shower.

The paper that sticks to your tender areas dries out your skin.

I'm kind of a slow learner but I have had some helpers who have told me they don't like Charmin and now that I've thought about it, I haven't either, for a very long time

User's recommendation: Wear underwear around the house to catch the little pieces

Change in quality of Charmin.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • Charmin used to be soft, didn't leave bits.
  • Now it's changed and expensive; I won't buy it again; Costco TP is cheaper and leaves no bits.

Don't waste your money. I switched to Charmin years ago because I wanted a TP that was soft, didn't leave bits down in privates, and didn't fall apart when wiping.

The perforation was never a concern. The entire product has changed, and it is not cheap, so there was no reason to downgrade. People were willing to pay more to get the three things I mentioned. Now, what is the point of spending on your expensive product without the qualities that made it worth it?

I will stop purchasing anymore after I finish using what I have. I have Costco TP, and you had to use more, but it didn't leave bits and was cheaper.

Loss:
$10000
Cons:
  • Not soft
  • And tears easily
  • Bits down below

Preferred solution: A better quality TP as advertised.

User's recommendation: Don’t waste your money. You aren’t getting what they promised.

Charmin's new soft tear is a horrible concept.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We have used Charmin for over 20 years, but we will no longer be buying this toilet paper that no longer rips without shredding the ends. Whoever thought if this new "tearing" line should be fired, along with whoever else approved this unnecessary "improvement...what a joke!

User's recommendation: Don't buy until they revert back to the straight line rip between squares.

They have not responded to my request

Original review Apr 08, 2025

It is obvious that they've decreased the "mega" concerning "size" in the toilet paper as it is not the same size it was when it initially came to the public however the exorbitant cost of it has not changed. I believe they depend on the public not to notice but I absolutely have noticed!! Can't trust any products today!

  • It cost too much

I truly love Charmin toilet paper. I purchased a 6 pack of rolls from ShopRite in Hudson, New York.

Four rolls so far have had a glue strip midway through the roll. It's gross to look at. I'm unsure if it even is glue, I am praying. I'm questioning whether I'm wiping with adhesive or a chemically made toilet paper.

Either way, I'm definitely upset, and you guys should take a look at whoever is rolling up because they must be high or your machine is malfunctioning. I am unsure how you make toilet paper, but whatever this is, it's not toilet paper.

Public Service Alert

Updated by user May 04, 2025

No response received from the company regarding recent message.

Original review Apr 19, 2025
Charmin toilet paper presents an abundance of packaging choices. 'Unit price' is really the best way to compare the value of the brand and size choice for price comparisons.

By dividing the price by the square footage, you get a number that you can use to compare for price ONLY. Some of Charmin's packages vary in unit price according to square footage for the same product, as does other brands.
This data has recently been removed by the largest vendors in their pictures of the Charmin product that they show online. At the same time, the data appears on each package in the store. It appears that the manufacturer has not removed the data, but the vendor has online.

Consequently, this action by the vendors is particularly burdensome to the consumer because it impedes them from computing the best value. This is particularly burdensome for disabled people who buy on the internet because they have difficulty traveling to the store. Knowing this, here is a summary of a message I sent to Procter and Gamble, the parent company regarding this issue:
-----
120924
Letter to Charmin regarding above issue
Many online vendors, i.e., Amazon, Walmart, Target, etc., that sell Charmin toilet paper have recently decided to remove the sizing data (three lines of data on the face of each package) in their representation of their packages that they sell online. Your customer service says that you, as the manufacturer, have no control over the vendor's behavior.

In addition, I was told that I have the option to purchase the product at the store. However, that should not remove your concern, in my opinion. For example, you (as the manufacturer) can let the vendors know that you are concerned because:
1) They are misrepresenting your product in their pictures online.
2) Disabled people use the internet to make purchases because of disability and are deprived of the measuring data to their disadvantage with your product.
-----
In summary, I will appreciate it if you take this matter seriously at a time when products of necessity are increasing in cost at astronomical levels.

I would like you to let your vendors know that you do not approve of this behavior and insist that they show the package online as it shows in the store with all of the data displayed. A reasonable response should be forthcoming.
Thank you for your anticipated attention to this concern.

User's recommendation: "Vote with your wallet" and let the parent Company "Proctor and Gamble" know how you feel.

Why some merchants may allow removal of sizing details depicted in their pictures for Charmin Toilet Paper online. NOTE: At the same time, the consumer can see these details on the same product packages on the retail shelf.

The removal of these sizing details may constitute a violation of FDA and/or ADA rules. Online product representations may omit measuring details for various reasons, including to simplify descriptions, focus on aesthetics, or avoid overly complex information. Additionally, some retailers may prioritize visual appeal and product descriptions over precise measurements, especially for items where dimensions aren't critical for the buying decision. Here's a more detailed look at the reasons: Simplification and Focus on Aesthetics: Online product representations often prioritize brevity and visual appeal.

Including precise measurements can clutter the display and make it harder for customers to quickly scan and compare products. Emphasis on Product Features: Retailers may focus on highlighting key features and benefits rather than detailed dimensions. For example, a clothing website might emphasize style, fabric, and fit over specific measurements like waist size or sleeve length. Avoiding Complexity: Providing detailed measurements can be time-consuming and may not be necessary for all product categories.

Some items, like electronics or furniture, may have more standardized dimensions, making measurements less critical. Limited Information Presentation: Online platforms may have restrictions on the amount of text or data they can display. This can lead to simplified descriptions that may omit some measurements. Customer Perceptions: Some customers may not need or be interested in detailed measurements.

They might be more concerned with the product's look, style, or function rather than precise dimensions. Uncertainty in Measurements: If a product is handmade or has natural variations, it may be difficult or impractical to provide exact measurements.

NOTE: None of the above reasons appear to exclude the necessity of making the sizing details available to consumers and especially, the disabled consumers, who elect to compute the best value based on size first. They can always evaluate further regarding, brand, appearance, configuration, quality, convenience, etc.

This doesn’t seem to be an issue with reputable sites like Target, Walmart etc. If a site does list a description of measurement/units in their product details, provide an unaltered picture of that same measurement/unit on the package AND a picture showing the barcode and the UPC code also listed in product details the site is not reputable. There should be concern over more serious matters as the consumer sharing personal and banking info.

Smells Awful

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Smells like urine. It is stored in a perfectly dry and cool environment.

I buy the big package of it. When I opened the individual package of the rolls from the large pack, I noticed the offending odor right away.

The new tear for the Charmin Ultra Soft does not work well. You have to be right on the perforation to get it to tear correctly, and it doesn't always tear correctly then. Charmin is my favorite toilet paper, and this is just frustrating.

Pros:
  • Charmin is my favorite toilet paper
Cons:
  • Toilet paper leaves behind cotton bits on my bottom

Preferred solution: Apology

User's recommendation: Please also complain about this.
